Gene has been involved in BMX for over thirty years. He was instrumental in organizing the first indoor race at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds in 1977. Gene was Vice President/Co-Owner of ABA from 1978 to 1982. He was also President of TIP Distributing from 1983 to 1992. In 1995, Gene was inducted into the National BMX Hall of Fame.
